LED lights are the latest technology in energy efficient lighting. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. It is a semiconductor device that converts electricity into light. LED lights  have much longer life than other types of lighting (e.g CFLs).

LED bulbs light only by the movement of electrons. They have no filament that will burn out; and unlike CFLs, they contain no mercury or other toxic substances. LEDs can last some 60 times longer than incandescents and 10 times longer than CFLs. And unlike incandescents, which generate a lot of waste heat, LEDs don’t get hot and use a much higher percentage of electricity for directly generating light.

LED lights use 85% less power than conventional incandescent bulbs and less than half the power of fluorescent lamps. Mind that, consuming less energy means lesser greenhouse gas emissions released in the air.
